It’s been a long time since i’ve written anything personal on the blog but hoping this brings me back! I spent this time apart adjusting to mom life x2! Time went by way faster this time around and definitely makes”it flies by in the blink of an eye” not so cliche. And now we are here, a year later of baby number two and his birthday party was a huge success. I was able to DIY my heart out! And nothing makes me happier than planning, organizing, and buying all the party things. We went with the One Happy Dude birthday party theme because not only is it so stinken cute; but his name actually means happy so it just made sense!
My proudest DIY were the giant letters. Here is the video that shows how I made them. They were everything I envisioned. I did not plan the setting up process all to well but thanks to my dad (aka abuelito) we figured it out. We used some pvc pipes to make a frame and a one pvc pipe don’t the middle for more support. And then used some fishline to go through the letters and tied to the pipes. Then we made sure to use stakes to hold down into the grass . To print out the giant letter template I used this video on 0:32 she shares how to print your giant template. I used Canva for my font and letters.

I used three different packs of tissue paper but I had a lot left over.

DIY Kid’s Play Area
I also diyed the kids area because I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars for a place that kids wouldn’t really use LOL. I bought these ikea tables and pillows and used this play mat. It was the perfect little area for the kids to eat and I provided coloring pages and crayons and bubble wands for them for some entertainment.
Links to Items Purchased
I feel like I purchased a lot more than I usually do for a party but I decided to make some investment purchases. If you host a a lot of parties like I do; sometimes purchasing some of the bigger items make sense so you don’t have to rent them every time.
- Tables : I purchased these tables from Ikea because they’re super affordable and I knew I wanted to repurpose them in my home. I already had the white one and that’s why they were different colors lol (It worked out with the theme)
- Pillows: I purchased about 6 so kids can sit while the color on the table picnic style again super affordable $3 so it was a no brainer
- Checkered Play mat: These were super affordable and perfect for this party and if they can definitely be repurposed for a playroom. I had to buy two for the size I needed.
- Ball Pit: I had purchased this as his Christmas gift and we love it! It cleans so easily and the quality is amazing.
- Ball Pit Balls: We purchased three sets to be able to fill up the ball pit enough
- Foam Play Set: This is the play set one of his aunties bought him as an early birthday gift to use for the party. It is quite small but it is perfect for crawling babies not toddlers.
- Bubble Wands and tray station: I did a small bubble station for the kids with these items and used a little table I had at home already
- Smiley Banner: The one i purchased is unavailable but I found another Here, reviews look like its the most similar.
- Happy Face Neon Sign
- Black Plates: these I purchased at the dollar tree, I liked these because they’re plastic vs paper so they were a lot sturdier.
- Checkered Plates
- Blue Napkins
- Round Balloon Grid Backdrop
- Balloons: Yellow, Blue, White
- White Boxes
- Checkered Boxes
- Sugar Cookie Recipe: Save money by making your own desserts it is time consuming but so fun if you enjoy baking. I tried a handful of recipes and these were by far the best! they were soft and chewy and were not overpoweringly sweet. As for the frosting I didn’t love the way sugar icing tastes with store bought powdered sugar so making. my own powdered sugar by grinding cane sugar in the blender tastes way better. I don’t know what it was but store bought had a metallic taste to it and when i decided to make my own it made all the difference.
- Black Umbrella
- Ice Cream Chest
- Centerpiece Vases: Dollar tree vases and trader joes florals for the win
- First Birthday Hat
- One Happy Face High Chair Banner: The one i used is currently unavailable here is a similar one.
- Smile Face Confetti
- White table Cloths
- Water Bottle Labels
- One Pinata
- Number One Foam Figure: This one was smaller than I expected but was still able to use in front of the ice cream chest. I added the blue fringe to it. Here is the tutorial for that.
